The County is considering the creation of zoning regulations for aircraft and airports. The proposed regulations were initiated in response to changes in state law (Chapter 333 of the Florida Statutes) requiring local government regulation of public-use aircraft landing facilities. In addition to these required regulations, the proposed amendment was expanded based on public comment to include some regulation of private-use aircraft landing facilities on a voluntary basis.

A workshop with the owners/representatives of local airports was held on November 29, 2023. Attendees provided comments which were reviewed by planning staff prior to the proposed regulations being presented to the Planning Commission on February 6, 2024. At that meeting the Planning Commission decided to continue this item to their meeting on May 7, 2024. A copy of the proposed regulations as presented to the Planning Commission on February 6, 2024 is provided below along with a map showing the locations of local airports.

Staff is currently working to address concerns raised during the February Planning Commission meeting. A new draft of the proposed regulations will be posted here the week before the May 7th Planning Commission meeting.
