  • Can I remain anonymous when filing a complaint?

No, anonymous complaints will not be investigated.  Effective July 1, 2021, Senate Bill 60 became law prohibiting code inspectors from initiating enforcement proceedings for potential violations of code and ordinances by way of anonymous complaints; requiring persons who report potential violations of code and ordinances provide specified information to the department before an investigation occurs.  Remember that all information you provide to the County is subject to Public Record Laws.  In other words, we must provide this information to anyone who asks.

  • How do I make a complaint?

  • How does a complainant check the status of a compliant they submitted?

The status of a case can either be checked through our website, or you can email the secretary at Code.enforcement@claycountygov.com.

  • How long will it take for the Code Enforcement officer to respond to my complaint?

    Usually within a week.

  • How long will it take to resolve the violation?

Generally 60 days but could take longer if the case has to go before the Special Magistrate.

  • What will Code Enforcement do if I refuse to comply with the county code?

The case will be taken before the Special Magistrate who will initially issue an Order for Compliance.  If compliance is not met within the time frame the magistrate gives, the magistrate can then impose a daily fine up to $250.00 per day.  This fine will constitute as a lien on the property and will continue to accrue daily until the property is brought into compliance.

  • Why am I being cited for all of these violations?

They do not meet one of several codes enforced by Code Enforcement.

  • Why did I get cited when other properties have the same or worse violations?

Code Enforcement received a complaint on your property.
