Curbside Collection

Garbage, recycling, and yard waste are collected weekly on your designated day. If you don't know your day, use the lookup portal or call 904-284-6374.

There will be no collection on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Collection pick-up will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. The collection service will return to its regular schedule the following week. Services will not be delayed if the holiday falls on a weekend.

Garbage and Yard Waste Essentials

All items must be curbside by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Containers should be removed promptly from the roadside after collection.

  • Residents must use a 40-gallon or less trash can or plastic garbage bags for curbside garbage collection.

  • Trash cans and bags CAN NOT exceed 50 lbs.

  • Please bag and tie trash to prevent litter, and keep your garbage container lid closed to deter flies and animals.

  • Tree limbs must be cut to 5-foot length and weigh no more than fifty pounds.  They need to be stacked neatly.

Bulky and Large Items

Residents with curbside collection can call Environmental Services at 904-284-6374 to schedule a pickup.

Recycling

The County’s recycling program has changed in order to address unprecedented processing costs. We all must focus on high-value items like plastic bottles/jugs, metal cans, and corrugated cardboard.

In the past we typically received $6 for every ton of recyclables processed, but now, due to increased processing costs and weaker markets, we are forced to pay $85 per ton. The County must focus on high-value recyclable items to avoid a $232,489 annual cost increase. This is a local, state, and nationwide problem that requires us all to rethink and reset how we recycle.

High-value items:

Clean flat corrugated cardboard up to 3'x3'  (NO PIZZA OR CEREAL BOXES)

Only #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs (e.g., water and soda bottles, milk and laundry jugs, etc.)

Metal cans

Do not place any other items such as GLASS, PLASTIC BAGS/CONTAINERS/WRAP in the bins. When in doubt, throw it out!

Who pays for the program?

Our recycling program is funded by the Solid Waste Fund, a statutorily driven enterprise fund that must pay for itself and balance. Any increase in cost would be reflected by an increase to the annual Solid Waste Assessment.

  • If we only recycle the high-value items, the recycling processors have estimated a rebate of up to $15 a ton.

The Board of County Commissioners agreed in December that recycling is important to our community. We all must change the way we recycle to focus on these high-value items to keep the program affordable, running, and without higher costs to residents.

Residents are required to have two separate recycling bins. The first bin is solely designated for clean and dry corrugated cardboard. The second bin is for clean #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs (e.g., water and soda bottles, milk and laundry jugs, etc.) and metal cans.

Residents can expect their curbside recycling to be picked up on the same day their yard trash is picked up.  Please place recycling bins outside by 6 a.m.
